Youth Is Wasted On The Young: Summertime Boredom Comics

Remember summer vacation? Depending on whether or not you regularly interact with kids or a have a job that offers much in the way of paid time off, you may not! The pace of adulthood tends to overshadow a simpler time when you *gasp* may have taken excessive swaths of free time away from school for granted. Don't beat yourself up, it happens. Besides, we have comics to help unlock your repressed memories.

It seems that wherever there are comics starring children, there are small humans struggling to stave off the summer doldrums -- even in an age of smartphones. Is youth wasted on the young? Not when it's so funny to observe their rare moments of self-awareness. Read on for a dozen reminders of just how splendid summer boredom was.

I can’t recall ever being as bored as these characters were. If I wasn’t outside playing baseball or something with the neighborhood kids, I was indoors playing with my Legos or other toys.

I grew up on a farm. There was always work to be done…especially during the summer. I actually looked forward to school starting in the fall.

When my sister, Sendi, or I even thought “bored” my mother had a list of jobs to do around the house to keep us “entertained,” so we did our best to stay outside and not be near the “list”!

The “I’m bored” comment always received the same answer, “Find something to do or I’ll find something for you to do.”
