I live in a small town in southern Wisconsin (population around 1600). I love animals, especially cats and dogs and I am known as Mom by a bunch of cats. I like gardening (both vegetables and flowers) and I like to read. I also like writing and I have published a chidren's book called Wanda Weird. It's the story of a nine-year-old girl who is bullied by some mean girls in her class and how she learns to deal with them. I work in the garden center at a Walmart in Madison, WI. In the off season, I work in back-to-school, Halloween, Christmas, etc. AKA - "Seasonal". But garden season is by far my favorite.

After much thought (not really!), I decided AGAINST hanging sardines from my Christmas tree this year. It may be tradition (well, not in my house, but it is with the Ten Cats) , but I just don’t think they would go with the rest of my decorations.

We are plenty frozen here, that’s for sure! But warming temperatures into the mid and upper 40’s are on the way before it turns colder again next week. It was so cold yesterday, I didn’t go outside to bring in my trash cans. I’ll do that today before I go to work.

I’m doing much better. I did stay home from work again on Wednesday. I still had a slight fever early in the morning, but it’s stayed normal all the rest of the day. I’ve been coughing a little, but not a lot. With my regular day off being Thursday, I expect to be fully recovered by Friday. I finally feel up to eating too. I did have to make a quick run up to the Dollar General store yesterday to buy a bag of dry cat food for my gang because I had run out. I had intended to buy some at Walmart after work on Tuesday, but that didn’t work out. There is a Dollar General here in town, less than a mile from my place. The cat food costs more there, but I sure could not go to Walmart to buy it on a day I had called off from work! I’ll buy more on Friday, after work.

From yesterday’s comments to QOA – I’m sorry for all that has been happening with your sister. Something like that happened with my sister, Martha. She had all kinds of problems – feelings like cramps or whatever (Martha was never a complainer and never admitted to being in pain. She always claimed only a “discomfort”). She went to a few different doctors, but her husband, Jim, was a lazy slob who didn’t work a day in his life after they were married and he didn’t want to be bothered with taking her to doctors when there was the slightest risk of snow (or even rain, because they might get struck by lightning). She was misdiagnosed I don’t know how many times, with some minor thing and Jim made no demands to discover why she was feeling so bad. By the time they finally got her the right diagnosis, it was stage 4 cancer. She was given 6 months to live. She would not accept that and she fought hard and lived another 3 or 4 years. But she didn’t stand a chance of beating the cancer once it had reached stage 4. If Jim had fought for her and gotten her to better doctors, she might have been cured and might still be living today. And when the nursing home called him the day Martha was taking her last breaths, pleading with Jim to come and say goodbye to her, he didn’t go because it was raining and he didn’t want to get struck by lightning. That made us so mad! Naturally, nobody in my family had any sympathy for him when Karma got him. He died of cancer a couple of years after she did. None of us went to his funeral.

BATHTUB PARTY DAY. Bathtub Party Day encourages us all to skip the ordinary shower and linger in the tub instead. On December 5th, add some suds to the tub and pamper yourself. (This is not for me. I never did like taking a bath. I much prefer a shower.

Really guys, I know you can’t be all good all the time, but you could at least try harder. Especially the way you treat Annie. Do better next year. There might not be much hope for this year.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes yesterday. I did call in sick for Tuesday because I still had a fever even as it got close to time to leave for work. And I was still coughing and sneezing and blowing my nose. Over the course of 2 days (Monday and Tuesday), I went through 2 whole boxes of Kleenex (120 tissues to a box). I’m coughing a lot less now, but still sneezing and blowing my nose. And now I have watery eyes and a red, sore nose. It’s so seldom that I get sick, but whatever bug I picked up sure hit me hard. I did a Covid test and it came back negative. But while I feel somewhat better now, I’m still not well. If I’m not better in the morning than I am right now (I’m going to bed in about 5 minutes), I will call off work again in the morning. I can’t work with watery eyes and a runny nose. I have the day off on Thursday, then I should be good to go on Friday. My fever has broken, at least for now, but I’ll see if it goes back up in the morning. I’ve been feeling a bit “barfy” so it’s hard to eat. I hope I can eat more starting today.
